Tuesday TEN

This is your year! I’m sure you’ve heard this multiple times already in the first 12 days of the year. Well, not only do I believe in this statement, I am going to share with you a great way to invest in yourself that will assist in this being “YOUR Year!”

your year

One of the best ways to invest in yourself and your passions is to get educated in the field you are passionate about, find a great mentor/accountability partner and spread your gift to the world.

Using myself as an example, last year was great. I published my first book, had a book tour where I sold out 4 out of 5 places and was booked for multiple speaking engagements all within 4 months of me leaving my full time day job to pursue my passion of being an author, Life Coach and Motivational Speaker. My new career of pursing my passions was looking great! Then things came to a halt due to me taking on full time care of my granny. Now with a new year in place, I’m back to pouring into my passions. One way I am pouring into my passion is to attend Marshawn Evans Daniels  upcoming Make Money Speaking Tour and I’m sharing 10 reasons why you should attend also!

1. What better way to learn than from someone who’s done the work! Marshawn has a proven track record of building her brand and living out her purpose.

2. Marshawn has published multiple inspiring and informational articles for world known companies

3. She is known for her many appearances in media outlets

4. Godfidence Business School is “WHERE WORLD-CLASS SPEAKERS GENERATE A WORLD-CLASS INCOME™” so why not learn from the Make Money Speaking Tour

5. The testimonials shared via website are enough to inspire anyone to partake in services

7. Marshawn’s motto just makes sense:

8. Marshawn offers amazing and insightful advice via social media so just imagine what you will get when in her presence!

9. Her Brand Class is just a peak of brilliance that you would get from Make Money Speaking!

10. She is a woman of faith! Marshawn is not afraid to share her faith and because of this, God continues to reward her.

What they are saying about Texas and The City

It’s now been 3 months since I introduced Texas and The City to the world. I kicked off a book tour throughout Texas in August and so far it has been going great.

In less than two weeks I will conclude the Texas and the City Barnes and Noble Book Tour throughout Texas in Houston and I’m so excited to round it up in H-town at the Barnes and Noble on Westheimer.

To hear the stories from different readers on how my book inspired them is completely amazing! I feel overwhelmed with joy because this is exactly what I sought out to do. Check out some of the comments here:

Texas and The City Book Tour kicked off Aug16th in Beaumont, TX and here are the results:

It was great turn out and inspirational event. Many people came out to support and all were sure to get their autographed copy of Texas and The City! Check out some photos from the event below:

Being from a small town and bringing my first stop of the book tour back home gave the opportunity for loved ones to come out and support. Was so happy to see Momma Tena below to come out and share support and of course one of the worlds best hugs 🙂

It was so exciting to speak to so many different people. I was told I inspired them just by sharing a summary of my book. This is my ultimate goal. Already heard a review from someone via FaceBook who read my book after purchasing it Saturday and said it was truly inspirational. So many are interested in reading the sequel… Guess that will come soon 🙂

After selling out the General Manager at Barnes and Noble shared with me how I was the first ever at that location to sell out of all books during a book signing. He said he was inspired by my engagement with everyone who came in and how I had a team of people to assist in making this event successful. Well… with a background in retail… I can’t help but bring the seller/presenter/manager/motivator out of me. This is who I am and this is what I do! I didn’t expect anything less. Thank You Beaumont Barnes and Noble for having me! Next stop Dallas, TX! Check out the flyer below for more details.

Throwback Thursday Tribute

A tribute to a living legend…

To the epitome of strength… my granny Corita Simmons.

1.the quality or state of being strong, in particular.

2.a good or beneficial quality or attribute of a person or thing.

granny783 years of age… married for 36 years before he was called home… 9 children(8 girls and 1 boy), grandmother to 22, great-granny to 29 and great-great granny to 1.

She had her right arm amputated at the age of 14 due to her being kicked by a mule and the doctor’s leaving the cast on to long. She relearned how to do basic functions like writing with her left arm although she was dominate with her right.

Although she had one arm, you would never know. She sewed garments for her children, she would paint a room, garden, cook meals for plenty, and was the neighborhood babysitter. She did things that amazed me still to this day. She is the epitome of STRENGTH!!!

My fondest memory of my granny and her strength…

I was no older than 10 years old. I remember I would study her every move. The way she did so much… without never once complaining was admirable. I remember I would put my right arm in my sleeve and try to do everything with just my left arm, like she did… I tried washing dishes with one arm… like she did and I would become so tired!

I recall the time she asked me to sweep and I truly did not know how. She first showed me how to do it and then I did just like her… grabbed the broom with my left arm and swept like her. She said to me “Kisha… use both of your arms. I sweep with one arm because I only have one. You have two!” I cried as I tried and tried to be successful at sweeping for her and she just smiled until we both started laughing.

After this incident I asked her “Granny, how do you never get tired?” Her response to me was one of the main reasons I believe in God today. She said to me “what you don’t see Kisha is that, what I lack… God make up 100 fold. I have never felt that I only have one arm because God has always been my right arm.”

Strength… the quality or state of being strong.

With her being hospitalized for only the second time in her life, I’m reminded daily of her strength. She was in ICU for eleven days, had a major surgery and came out a survivor and although she is still currently hospitalized… she is on a road to recovery and have surprised the doctors with her progress. She is amazing and God continues to show Himself through her.

While speaking to her neighbors and many visitors that have come by, they have all shared such great words of this remarkable woman I call granny. The one word that repeatedly came from every persons mouth was strength. They spoke of how kind Corita Simmons is, how she shared such wisdom when it came to raising a family, how so many respected her for being an example to everyone else in the neighborhood, how her belief in Christ was one to emulate and they all spoke highly of her strength.

Thank you granny for being the example of strength, a true believer and above all greatness.

Fab Fashion Friday

Fab Fashion Friday- Salute to Erykah Badu

Celebrating the beautiful, bold and unique styling of the new face of GivenchyErykah Badu!

Last week while we (including ME) were all in an uproar behind the bodacious Beyonce‘ dropping her secret album and breaking the internet… Ms Badu was being hand selected and introduced by Riccardo Tisci, the creative director to be the face of Givenchy’s Spring 2014 collection. This Fab Fashion Friday is a tribute to her.

In the Dallas Morning News, Badu stated “Riccardo’s a fan of my style,” “He told me he really wanted to work with me because he had a special campaign he designed for me. He sent me some of the photos, and I was super-honored; I didn’t take it for granted. Fashion is my thing, and I am a big fan of Riccardo’s — not just because of his amazing eye, but because of his spirit, what he wanted. He wants to give models of color an opportunity, and he chose me as the face for that campaign because he told me I fit what he wanted to represent.” – See more at: fdluxe.dallasnews.com

Erykah Badu is a world known risk taker. She has never been apologetic for her style and is completely comfortable being uniquely beautiful. This mother, artist, vegan, entertainer and icon stepped on the scene with her unique style in 1997 and has stayed true to her individuality never conforming to music industry standards.

When Riccardo Tisci was asked why Erykah his reply was simple: “Erykah, she’s an icon—come on!” “She’s one of the most stylish women I’ve met in my life. She’s got such a good sense of proportion, of colors.”

Check out some of my favorite looks from Ms Badu below:

Erykah Badu

Thanks Erykah Badu… Not just for inspiring Givenchy but also inspiring me.

Throwback Thursday Tribute

Throwback Thursday Tribute

Known for her golden feathered style locks, big smile and sun-kissed skin, this Throwback Thursday tribute is celebrating the Texas born beauty… Farrah Fawcett.

Farrah became an international success from her iconic red swimsuit poster. This was the beginning of becoming a household name. She starred as private investigator named Jill Munroe in the first season of the television series Charlie’s Angels. And this is where her name became one to remember.

Although the icon poster with Farrah in the red swimsuit sold over 12 million units, she repeatedly resisted requests for nudity throughout her career. Then at age 48, she decided to pose for the one and only Playboy nude. She’s posed for Playboy previously but with no nudity until 48.

As Charlie’s flirty and fun Angel, women all over wanted to become more like her.  Although known for her beauty, Farrah didn’t stick to roles that embodied this. She took on challenging roles and allowed her talent to shine even brighter than her beauty.

Farrah Fawcett has won numoreous awards and in 1996, Fawcett was ranked No. 26 on TV Guide’s “50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time” list. She earned her first Emmy from the role in   The Burning Bed which was the highest rated television movie that season.

This 1970’s icon wore swimsuits better than anyone during that time. Check out some of my favorites below:

Although Farrah lost the battle to Anal Cancer in 2009 , her legacy will live on forever. Who could ever forget the girl that made swimsuits sexy, natural hair envious and a big smile infectious. She was and will always be a beauty icon to remember.

If you would like to donate to Farrah’s foundation, please visit http://www.thefarrahfawcettfoundation.org/

Kisha’s Life Lessons Week 19

My quote for the day…

Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you respond to it. – Lou Holtz

Don’t let others negativity weigh you down!

I’m a pretty positive person… I always find the good in people, things and life situations but there are those times in life where I simply say What The Heck! One of those moments happened around 1:28am.

During my route home from inventory in the late of the night, I was pulled over by a police officer. Interestingly enough, I initially had no worries as I know I didn’t break any law and was completely clueless of the stop. Shortly after the officer made it to my car my calmness turned into panic. I’ve once again had a “never experienced” situation and was left feeling completely vulnerable.

This…is my story.

Me: “Hi officer, I’m unsure of why I was stopped. Could you share what I did wrong?”

Officer: “There is always a reason we stop people. Show me your registration.” (His voice, very cold somewhat smug with a negative attitude)

I actually am shocked at his rude introduction so I take a deep breath then lean over to get the papers out of my glove compartment. While I am leaning over he is looking through my car with the flashlight. What the hell is he doing looking through my car while my back is turned? I pull all papers out of the glove compartment and when noticing my insurance card was on top I attempt to hand that to him while I find other necessary documents. He responds with an attitude while flicking the flashlight toward my face and saying

“I don’t need that. Who’s this car for?”

Me: Once again taking deep breaths “Officer, this is my car… I’m driving home from”

He interrupts me saying “Are you sure this is YOUR car? You been out late drinking? Are you positive this is YOUR car? I want to see the registration showing this is registered to you” He emphasizes on the words “your” and “you” every time he asks if the car belongs to me. He then puts the flashlight directly in my face and I am starting to panic so I grab my face to hold in the tears.

Me: “Officer… this is MY car. I have not been drinking and I am willing to take any test necessary. I am driving home from work. We had inventory tonight.”

Officer: “Oh yea… well lets start with your license.”

At this moment I notice more lights in my rear-view mirror. Another cop in a SUV pulls up and I really start to have bad thoughts and panic. “Oh my God… what is going on? Why did he call for back up? I’m in the middle of darkness and I’m scared Lord!” These are my thoughts.

Me: ( I’m starting to cry and I’m trying hard not to but the tears are beginning to fall. I stop looking through my papers and reach into my handbag and pull out my wallet. I’m shaking while taking out my license.) I then hand it to him and say “Officer please forgive me but I am a little shaken up. You have yet to tell me why I was pulled over and I know I have the right to ask. Yes I am crying and starting to have a panic attack because I do not know why you are choosing to be so rude to me. I’ve never experienced this.”

Officer: (Deep sighs with a smirk) “THIS car… in THIS area… is highly suspicious.”

My thoughts are what the hell does that mean? I can’t drive a nice car?? I worked hard for my Infinity FX35! At this point I am doing the hyperventilating cry why still trying to take deep breaths to calm myself down. He looks at my license and says in a voice of shock “You’re from Texas?”

Me: “Yes officer, I am. I moved here for work.”

Officer: “Alright… (he says with a sigh) Just calm down… take some deep breaths. I’ll be right back.”

When he returns to my car his attitude is COMPLETELY different. He comes back with a voice of concern as I am still trying to calm myself down.

Officer: “Hey, just be safe getting home…”

I look up with confusion written on my face. I know he saw it because I have still NOT been given a reason why I was pulled over. He looks at me and responds to the question on my face.

Officer: “Just FYI, you should get your license changed over to NY if this will be your permanent residence.”

I immediately respond “It will not be my permanent residence. I WILL be moving.”

Officer: “Alright well… just be safe getting home. Relax your fine. I’m not going to issue you a ticket. You were just going like 40mpw in a 30 mpw zone.”

He walks away and I drive home. I KNOW I wasn’t going 40 in a 30 zone. I drive this route daily for work and at night I go even slower because I don’t have great night vision and I don’t want to hit any deer.

ANYWAY… I share this story to say, sometimes life brings us threatening and uncomfortable situations. We don’t plan to encounter these things and no matter what anyone says, you can be the strongest individual in the world but you never know how the situation will impact you when dealing with adversity in a particular moment.

Yes, I had a hard night. Yes I cried more once I made it home. Yes there were a few moments where I couldn’t relax and did not go to sleep until a little after 5am. BUT… I’ve still been blessed to have lived through it.

There have been plenty that have encountered way worse situations from mine and are not living today to share their personal stories. (Example… Trayvon Martin)

But the lesson learned through MY experience is no matter what is thrown my way, I still choose to rise above. I did not like the way I was treated last night but he is only a representation of hate and negativity. I do not give that any power in my life! What ever you face in life, you can choose how you react to it. DO NOT LET NEGATIVITY WEIGH YOU DOWN! Know life goes on and you can and WILL overcome!

Keep smiling and shed light onto this world. We may not be able to change a person but we can influence greatly on the change we want to see.

Be inspired to fly above all of the drama!
